AUTHOR OF THE BOOK
Known as India’s most fearless and trusted journalist, Santosh Bhartiya began his journey of social activism in the early eighth decade. He along with his colleagues initiated the ‘Daam Bandho’ movement in Bihar. This movement is considered to be the early stage of the JP movement. Santosh Bhartiya is among those three people who were first arrested in MISA for rolling out the movement. Amongst the eighteen people who were part of the team of Jayprakash Narayan to unroll the movement all over the country, Santosh Bhartiya was one of the key members.
Santosh Bhartiya was later appointed as the convener of Uttar Pradesh by JP of his organization ‘Sangharsh Vahini’. After the Emergency period was over, he took up journalism as his profession on the advice of JP.
As a special correspondent for Anand Bazar Patrika’s much-talked-about weekly magazine ‘Ravivar’, he began his journey of journalism. After working here for ten years, he joined ‘The Telegraph’ as a special correspondent. In 1985, ‘Newsline’ the program on ‘Current Affairs’ was launched on Doordarshan. Santosh Bhartiya was the Special Correspondent here too, in fact, the first special correspondent of electronic media. This team is considered to be the originators and the pioneers of the trend of showing footage along with newsreaders in electronic media. In 1998, he started ‘Headlines’ a news and feature agency, which provided news and features to almost 3,000 national and international newspapers and magazines at that time. Santosh Bhartiya also created trendsetter programs and anchored memorable shows for the country’s first private news channel Jain TV.
In 1986, he started ‘Chauthi Duniya’ a newspaper with former MP and industrialist Kamal Morarka. This is the first weekly newspaper of Hindi in India. This newspaper played an important role in flipping and turning upside down the Indian political system many times. Chauthi Duniya uncovered almost 600 breaking stories in the span of just 10 years and created an honorably powerful history by turning down the Prime Minister and crowing the next in 1989.
It became so influential that the Prime Ministers have often taken the resignations of Chief Minister, ministers, and bureaucrats just after reading the stories published in Chauthi Duniya which was lead by Santosh Bhartiya. At times copies of the Chauthi Duniya newspaper were hoisted several times in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and the parliament debated over that.
Santosh Bharti won the Lok Sabha elections from Farrukhabad in 1989. He was a member of the 9th Lok Sabha in which V.P. Singh was the Prime Minister and Parliament was attended by stalwarts like Chandrashekhar, Rajiv Gandhi, L.K. Advani, Somnath Chatterjee, N.G. Ranga, and Rabi Ray. While being a Member of Parliament, Santosh Bhartiya, proposed the Prasar Bharati Bill. He demanded that the proceedings of Parliament should be shown live to the public through Doordarshan, to which 10th Lok Sabha accepted it and began showing live on Doordarshan. Even after he became a member of parliament he continued writing on social issues in popular magazines like Dharmayug, Illustrated Weekly, Punjab Kesari, and Current.
Santosh Bhartiya has been consistently seen as the chief panelist of all important news channels. These days, apart from being the Editor in Chief of Chauthi Duniya, Santosh Bhartiya is a Founder-Editor-Director of Loud India TV, the much-talked-about brand of the Indian digital world, and is known as a popular & credible analyst, quick commentator on social, political, and economic issues.
